I have a confession. I am a cloth diaper nut. When Isabella was younger, I used disposables. I was quite uneducated about cloth diapers. I wasn’t for them or against them…I just didn’t know people used them. Then, I thought cloth diapers was something used in the olden days. However, once I did my research, I became HOOKED!! Isabella now has a pretty decent sized fluff stash.
Guess what the latest addition is? That’s right…Glow Bug!!
Glow Bug Cloth Diapers kindly sent me one of their girly one-size diapers to review. To start off, I must say…the print on this diaper is beyond adorable. I normally encounter the same designs over and over and over again used by cloth diaper companies. With Glow Bug, their prints are unique! I’m gushing over the butterflies and flowers adorned on the diaper. The colors are vivid, even after multiple washes.
Each diaper comes with 2 snap-in inserts. This really comes in handy during naptime and overnight. Isabella wets her diaper every 1-2 hours. If the absorbency of the inserts and diaper fail, the urine will seep through and ruin her sheets and mattress. Not only that, but her precious sleep will be disturbed! If you’re a mother of a rambunctious toddler, you know if they don’t get their required sleep…the can be hard to deal with!
On this diaper, you will notice two sets of cross-over snaps through the waistband. This ensures a perfect fit, whether you’re diapering a newborn or an active toddler, like myself. I didn’t use cloth diapers when Isabella was a newborn, but I’m sure it’s tougher to get a good fit on them since they’re so tiny.
There are four settings that will fit newborn babies to toddlers (7-35lbs). Isabella is a small one, weighing in at only 26lbs. More than likely, she will be able to rock this cloth diaper for another year…or until she’s potty trained. As much as I love cloth diapers, especially this one, I’m HOPING/PRAYING she’ll be out of diapers sooner than that 😉
Color coordinating snaps are perfectly placed on Glow Bug’s cloth diapers! The diaper I received had lovely green colored snaps, which matched beautifully with the gorgeous print.
Going back to the leaking situation, Glow Bug Cloth Diapers has waterproof flaps in the front and the back to prevent any urine escaping! This is a BIG deal, folks! A diaper is useless if it can’t hold anything!
I tested this diaper out in every situation I could possibly think of. Putting cloth diapers through the ringer is what I do best…well, what ISABELLA does best!
1. During the day: Isabella is very rambunctious, and this diaper held up pretty well! It allows her to move about freely without feeling weighed down by the bulk a cloth diaper might bring. We experienced no leaks, as I expected. Day time isn’t a big problem, though.
2. Naptime: Usually, Isabella takes a good 2-3 hour nap every day. Sometimes she wakes up completely dry…other times she wakes up in a puddle of pee. I hate walking in her room to the latter. My daughter won’t wake up when she’s soaked, so it’s hard to catch it in time. Her diaper stayed dry for her 2 hour nap! Hip hip hooray!!
3. Overnight: This is the hardest challenge of all the challenges when it comes to cloth diapers. It is very difficult to find diapers that will hold up. I definitely doubled up on inserts, just to be safe. She sleeps for approximately 8-10 hours. That’s a long time to not have a diaper changed! However, she remained unsoaked!! This diaper has been one of my absolute favorites to use overnight now!
We can’t forget POOP, now can we? 😛
She did decide she wanted to poop in her diaper during the testing-out period. Although this moreso has to do with how I clean it rather than the diaper itself, there was no residue after I washed it! No odor, either!
Additionally, there is a double gusset through the leg for more much needed protection. Two openings in the pocket allow for me to put more absorbent inserts inside. The inserts snap-in for extra security.
Overall, I give this diaper an A+! I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to add to their fluff stash!
